COTTESLOE
The home-owners purchased this 1950s, architecturally-designed home for its great emphasis on the modernist movement of that era. The brief for this kitchen renovation was to retain the home’s period style while reworking the interior layout to accommodate today’s greater luxuries.
As keen renovators with a great passion for architecture and design, it was imperative to the owners that they work closely with Western Cabinets on the creation of their kitchen.
The new floor plan needed to be open and free-flowing to benefit from the newly appointed outdoor entertaining area, which overlooked the pool, outdoor studio and yard.
Smart planning and reworking of interior structures created an open-plan kitchen within the central hub of the home. It was designed to accommodate a large preparation worktop with an abundance of drawer storage that worked as
a casual breakfast bar, and also opened out onto the new outdoor entertaining area.
A sleek concealed walk-in pantry/scullery area was built-in alongside the refrigeration and ovens, maintaining clean lines yet functional features.
The materials complement the modernist era of the home. A striking timber veneer, recognisable in 1950s furniture design Palisando, was used alongside dark brown tones and smoked mirror to contrast the vivid white walls and timber cladding.
The outcome works in complete harmony with the era of this home’s architecture, while collaborating with current technology and intelligent design.
